Trescone is a traditional song and dance of the Tuscany region. The name Trescone comes from the German thriskan that means “beat, pound, press”: people crushed wheat with their feet to divide grains from straw. At the beginning, this song was danced only by men and after it was performed in couples or in little groups. Usually, it is danced during traditional festivals where food, wine and glee abound.
Rificolona
Rificolona is a traditional event of Florence that is celebrated every 7 September. Its origins date back to the mid-seventeenth century when farmers arrived in Florence for Mary’s nativity. They must leave their house during the night, so they brought lanterns on the top of a cane to light the way. Today, kids build their rificolona with wire and tissue paper and hang it on the window or bring it on the street singing the traditional song ona, ona, ona, ma che bella rificolona…
